Weekend Wrap-Up: Running, The Literal and Figurative

The alarm went off at 6:31 am this Monday morning.  Here's the problem with that -  it was supposed to go off at 6:00 am for CB's bus which comes at.... 6:35.

Yup, I had 4 minutes to get her ready for the bus.

Of course, you think Oh sane reader, that any rational person would just drive their daughter into school that day because who could get a soundly sleeping 18-year old with cognitive disabilities and Autism up, changed (as in diaper changed) dressed, medicated, socked and shoed and out the door in four minutes?

But, Oh sane reader, you have not inserted yourself into the insanity that is called my life where every 15 minute interval seems to be filled with something... SOMETHING... whether it be self-imposed/voluntary or necessary. Today, I would NOT be able to drive her to school because I had to get the other 2 kids on the bus at 8 am and go immediately to a morning parent-teacher conference for my 5 year old  and Dr Fabulous was no help at all because he had to leave the house at 7:00am.

And it reminded me of something that was recently said to me about how I, as a stay-at-home mom, had so much more free time than she did as a working mom. And while I certainly can't argue the merits of whether or not that is true (nor do I feel compelled to get into a pissing match over that sort of stuff) I can say this: If stay-at-home moms have all this free time, I'm feeling quite ripped off about my life choice right now.

So, back to the incredibly long story - By the miraculous lateness of the bus, my skilled and well- honed ability to get CB ready in record breaking time (including a lovely morning poop in the diaper just to add to the drama), and the grace of God she got on that bus and was probably thinking "What the hell just happened."

The rest of the day was a series of rushing from here to there to here to there with 5 to 10 minute blocks in between to catch your breath so you didn't pass out which I almost did because I forgot to eat breakfast. The day continued on like this, as it does most days, until I got home at 8:30 pm after almost giving myself a heart attack trying to get to some meeting that was already an annoying event which ended up being a colossal waste of my time and evening and an hour of my life I'll never get back.

But that's okay.  I didn't need that hour anyway.

So this explains the Mike's Hard Apple Cider next to me right now.

Running.
That's all I feel like I do.... like we ALL do.
And, tonight's Weekend Wrap-up fits in perfectly because Saturday was all about running.

Pink's second 5K was this weekend. Last year she ran the "Trick or Trot" with me, and this year with her Dad.

The home stretch! Look at that focus!

Love the "post-race" pride on her face!

We also ran the girls around to soccer and tennis and swimming and Tink had her 2 hour retreat to prepare for her First Confession in the Catholic Church which was after an hour of regular Sunday church then I topped off Sunday with picking up CB in Maryland.

Boy, weekends sure aren't what they used to be.

Speaking of running, I treated myself to a run to clear my head today.  I had 20 minutes of free time before Pink got off the bus so I zipped around the local streets and enjoyed the changing leaves and the crisp air.  That, and this beer, sorta saved my sanity.

Well, off to double check my stupid alarm!

Lord, I know exactly what you're talking about. How do we stop all of this? How?

Wow!! I need to take some tips from you on morning routine! :) Dear Polly needs a bath every morning. EVERY morning. Then if she doesn't get her 5 containers of chef Boyardee chicken and rice, the rest of the day is a fail. She takes a good 40 minutes on a good morning. Lol! Which is the main reason I have to take her every day instead of sending her on the bus. We are never ready at the same time every day. Add a nursing baby to the mix and we have a long morning, but I wouldn't change a thing!

whew! I'm in awe that you got CB out the door in 5 minutes! You've got some amazing skills there mama! I loved that you "treated" yourself to a run--I know that feeling!

So glad that you snuck a run in for yourself. Here's hoping that the rest of the week goes more smoothly and you find yourself with that free time the "working mom" talked about. ;-)
