Last night a friend and I went to see memoirist and National Book Award Finalist, Beth Kephart speak at the Philadelphia Public Library about writing memoir and Handling The Truth.
Her hour presentation included insights on memoir writing, selected readings from her new book, Handling The Truth: On The Writing of Memoir, and writing exercises. She taught me more in 60 minutes than I have learned in years.
And here I am meeting her and getting my book signed!
So cool.
One of our free writing exercises was to write the autobiography of an inanimate object we had in our purse or pockets.
The other was to think of a significant day and write about the weather.
Again... cool.
I love writers.
I was going to share my free writing exercises here with you but my kids are bugging me and CB needs a diaper change.
Or, it's all an unconscious rationalization for being chicken.
