Her name conjured up images
of friends and long walks
of wholes, not pieces
of smiling photos in polka dotted frames
and music played too loud
long talks about nothing and everything
childhood hugs followed by
cheerleading camp and bouts of angst
of promises kept and broken
So that is what I named her
because it sounded like a bell
ringing in the darkness
I still hear it faintly
slicing through
her silence

You just melted my heart.
Yes, I am silenced.

Beautiful. Truly beautiful.
Love the header photo too!
So beautiful! I love your new header!
Just wanted to let you know that you've developed a little 'fan club' amongst your previous psychologist cohort, those of us who are privileged to work with families and individuals with disabilities, and those of us on 'both sides of the fence.' We look forward to your postings and share them with our families, whom we know will benefit from your honesty, your humanity, and most of all, your love.
Doreen!! oh my gosh, THANK YOU for posting and for sharing this blog with others who walk in similar shoes. I miss you and allmy NSTM collegues and the families I was priveledged to have worked with. It was really my favorite job ever!!!:)
