tHERsDay and She Knows

I am pontificating on how to de-clutter, downsize and donate over at SheKnows today.
Check out my article entitled
"A Post-Holiday Purge Extends The Season Of Philanthropy" HERE.

A little facebook share, a little comment, a little tweet ... I won't talk you out of that.

And of course, as it is Thursday, it's HER day.  A shout out to the little CB who was apparently a pistol  at school today and ended up in an unprecedented 3-point restraint in the hallway.

Call in the Behaviorists!

Teenagers.  *sigh*

Oh, Man! Those transitions from break to school are always tough for my youngest. Mine don't return to school until NEXT MONDAY (!!!) so by the time they go back, it'll feel like they've been off for weeks. God help us...

That photo of dear CB is amazing. What was she up to warrant such a thing? Good minds want to know.

The school called today bc CB had to be restrained by 3 people due to aggression/destruction. This is not a usual thing for her. I think to Kari's point there was some transitioning issues going from break (at her grandparents where she was appropriately spoiled) to the demands of school. But also, she has had increasing problems with her behaviors (hitting, throwing, tipping over chairs and desks, kicking, scratching others, spitting) over the past few years (since hitting puberty). It seems things have gotten worse since the summer. She is much more aggressive at school than at home, I think bc of all the extra stimulation and demands and inability to stim constantly. Ugh... lovely.

Wow. That must be so difficult. I recall meeting a couple of people in my work in the epilepsy/healthcare improvement world of children (boys and girls) hitting puberty and then their mid to late teens and becoming quite aggressive. I wonder if it has something to do with her seizures and/or medications. I have a good friend who is a neuropsych, a renowned one at UCLA, and I could put you in touch with her, if you think that might help. Sending love to you, in any case, and continued strength and courage.

thank you elizabeth for your support. fortunately, for me (though unfortunately for school) she is much easier to manage at home. i think she has more leeway at school than at home - i am the "meanie mom" at home and none of my kids get away with ANYTHING. Momma don't play 'dat. They have a behaviorist on staff and she had a behavior intervention plan several years ago, but its one behaviorist for like 500 kids and such a high staff turnover with the TAs and so many other kids in the class w/ severe issues that i just don't know that the plan can mplemented or maybe if it wasn't the best plan to begin with?... i know they are all trying though. thanks for the resource - i'll let you know if we get desperate :)
